Greetings,

I am Hernando Cortez-Bowser Flowers. Currently, I am a BBA Senior concentrating in Marketing and Management & Organizations. Upon graduation I will commission into the United States Army as a 2nd Lieutenant. Outside of the B-School I am a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., Army ROTC, N.V.R. Flo Dance Team, and a load of other clubs and organizations.
I'm in this class to learn how to effectively and efficiently search for information, thereby allowing me to become more of an asset to any group or team that I'm a part of.
I joined the program in search of a degree that will always be useful no matter the times. Also, from a young age, I was always taught the importance of business knowledge and investments, and I wanted to continue my growth in those regards.
My hobbies include exercising, playing basketball, dancing, and the military.

Hah! Little slow on my part. Um…"yes"? I just left it off the schedule. My bad.

Professor Moore,

I was hoping to write a blog entry about the "exploring connections" class, but there is no "blog entry" opportunity on the schedule. Are we permitted to write a blog on this class? I wanted to make sure before I wrote one.

Thanks,
Bryan

Could you try it again? I just tried all of the links to feed43 related stuff and they all seemed to work.

If you try it again, and it doesn't work, please cut and paste the link into your reply so that I can see exactly what it is that you're talking about.

I was looking over the topic of Page Monitors and making questions to review for the exam, and you mention that Feed43 is an important one to know. The links to the website don't seem to be working for me and when I just type in the URL it doesn't work either. It says "Page Not Found." Does the page no longer exist already or is the URL on the wiki wrong?

Do you click on your link after the first search? Could that have affected your ranking? I'm sure Google takes into account clicks on search results in their pagerank algorithm. What do you think?

I have a website, UMhoops.com, and was checking it's Google positioning and discovered something very odd.

If I search for [michigan basketball], I come up 8th.

But if I search for [michigan basketball blog] (I come up first) and then I search for [michigan basketball] (in the same browser window) I come up 3rd instead of 8th.

This is most likely some sort of glitch, maybe even with my cache, but I found it very odd. Has anyone else ever noticed anything like this?

Yes, you definitely can do this. For the new blog, when you create the blog page, change the word "blog" to "disneyblog" in the name of the page as you have already done. Then in the page where you want the information displayed, use something like this:

[[module ListPages category="disneyblog" order="titleDesc" separate="false" limit="5" prependLine="||~ Date ||~ Title ||"]]
|| %%content{1}%% || %%linked_title%% ||
|||| %%content{2}%% ||
[[/module]]

Notice the category has been set to "disneyblog". This is the key to displaying the appropriate category of information (either blog, disneyblog, sched, annc, or whatever).

Re: Having Multiple Blog Lists by samooresamoore, 21 Oct 2008 23:54

I am interested in having multiple blog lists on my wiki. I tried to copy and paste the template that you gave us and insert a different prefix other than "blog" to differentiate it. (I tried "disneyblog") but it didn't work. Do you have any suggestions for how I can do this? Thanks!!

You don't need to enter anything right now into the gradebook for the term project.

For the term project update due tomorrow, are we supposed to enter in all the urls into the gradebook of all the pages we have created? Or is that just when they are complete? Because a lot of stuff is supposed to still be a work in progress at this time right?

Thanks

Google put up its 2001 version for people to see how much things have changed! It's so odd how different it is!

Try Google 2001

Have a good weekend everyone!

You can move it to any blank box, no questions asked. If you need to do it earlier than you are currently scheduled, no problem — just change the schedule.

Re: Industry Update Question by samooresamoore, 03 Oct 2008 17:06

This is more of a personal question to Professor Moore, so I apologize for posting on the main forum.

I am schedule to complete my Google industry update on the 15th of October. As it turns out, that week is the busiest week ever for me (5 interviews, 2 midterms, and a presentation). So, I would prefer to complete the industry update a week before, when I have time. Does this defeat the purpose of an industry update (doing it a week ahead of time)? Should I just move my name on the schedule page to a later date?

Thanks!
Bryan

Industry Update Question by bryblumbryblum, 03 Oct 2008 16:56

You could see if someone else has been able to successfully download the data and has a copy of the original Excel file.

Or, if that's not possible, just enter the data yourself. The data on the Web page is right.

Re: Search Update File Issue by samooresamoore, 28 Sep 2008 23:25

Save the file to disk, and then open it?

Or did you try that already?

Re: Search Update File Issue by samooresamoore, 28 Sep 2008 22:32

Hello,

For some reason the Excel file with the class data will not open – I get a zipped file full of xlm files that look like nothing (a bunch of references to http://schemas.microsoft.com/office/mac/excel/2008/main - ???) when try to open them with Excel…

I’m using Vista with Office 2007.

Any ideas?

For our first term project update, are we supposed to create a separate page (other than our start page) to describe our topic? Or are we only supposed to describe our topic on our wiki start page? This may seem like a stupid question, but I just want to clarify the instructions. Thanks!
