I was looking over the topic of Page Monitors and making questions to review for the exam, and you mention that Feed43 is an important one to know. The links to the website don't seem to be working for me and when I just type in the URL it doesn't work either. It says "Page Not Found." Does the page no longer exist already or is the URL on the wiki wrong?

I have a website, UMhoops.com, and was checking it's Google positioning and discovered something very odd.

If I search for [michigan basketball], I come up 8th.

But if I search for [michigan basketball blog] (I come up first) and then I search for [michigan basketball] (in the same browser window) I come up 3rd instead of 8th.

This is most likely some sort of glitch, maybe even with my cache, but I found it very odd. Has anyone else ever noticed anything like this?

This is more of a personal question to Professor Moore, so I apologize for posting on the main forum.

I am schedule to complete my Google industry update on the 15th of October. As it turns out, that week is the busiest week ever for me (5 interviews, 2 midterms, and a presentation). So, I would prefer to complete the industry update a week before, when I have time. Does this defeat the purpose of an industry update (doing it a week ahead of time)? Should I just move my name on the schedule page to a later date?

Thanks!
Bryan

Or are we only supposed to describe our topic on our wiki start page? This may seem like a stupid question, but I just want to clarify the instructions. Thanks!

For the Yahoo search industry update for Thursday, the two big news items that I found were about Open Hack Day and then the release of Yahoo! oneConnect for the iPhone. However, neither of these things specifically pertain to searching. Are they okay to use or do I need to have more search industry specific information? I couldn't find anything more relevant to that. If I do need to find other things, do you have any recommendations of where to look other than the sites on the blogroll?

Hi Everyone,

My name is Brian Hendricks and I am a BBA Junior studying Marketing and BIT. I am interested in sports, hiking, trying new foods, traveling, meditating, and collecting board games. When I am not in class, I am Microsoft's Student-Partner for Michigan, the Online Editor for the Monroe Street Journal, member of the Marketing and Toastmasters clubs, webmaster for Phi Chi Theta business fraternity, and a brother of Sigma Phi Epsilon.

This summer I worked at a consulting firm in Virginia started by former Microsoft executives and is exclusively focused on strategy and execution services for Software-as-a-Service applications. The sales process of SaaS applications is "Search, Click, Try, Buy" - you can't try or buy an online application until you find it. Thus, understanding search and finding information is crucial to creating a successful SaaS application.

Despite my technology interests and backgrounds, I unfortunately am just like the millions of people who just fire up Google when they want to find something (or IMDB if its about movies/shows). I read news from the same 5-6 websites each day simply because I don't take the time to find information from other sources. Hopefully this class will automate that process and expand my news sources. More importantly, before you can find a piece of information to analyze/use in an assignment you have to find it - this class will help me find **relevant **information efficiently and quickly.

-Brian

Is the industry update focused on just search-related products or for the entire company as a whole? Do we provide just data or should we do any sort of analysis/opinions on the information we collected? The requirements for the assignment are still a little unclear, but I am sure once the first one is done it will be easier to understand.
